How much water does your AI use?
Three quick steps. You get an honest range, not a single made-up number, and the confidence rises as you add real data from your provider.
What are you estimating?
Pick the kind of AI work.
Text generation: chatbot interactions.
How much, per month?
Drag, or type an exact number.
Where does it run?
Choose “Not sure” for anything you don't know. The range widens, which is the honest answer.
What moves your estimate
How far each assumption swings the result across its range, with the others held at their central value.
How to reduce it
Each change tested on its own against your current central estimate.
Run on a low water gridWind and solar consume far less water per kWh than thermal power plants.
Choose low water coolingPrefer facilities using air or closed loop cooling, especially in water stressed regions.
Cut 20% of unnecessary requestsClear prompts, reusing answers and avoiding repeated generations reduce usage without losing value.
Use an efficient facilityA lower PUE means less electricity drawn, so less water at the power plant.
Assumptions used in this calculation
E is IT energy: usage × energy per unit. Low and high combine the low or high end of every range. The central value uses the geometric midpoint for energy, because its range spans an order of magnitude, and arithmetic midpoints elsewhere.
| Input | Low | High | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Usage per month | 1,000 interactions | Your input | |
| Energy per interaction (Wh) | 0.1 | 3 | Category range |
| WUE (L/kWh), Unknown | 0 | 2.5 | Unknown (widest) |
| PUE, Unknown | 1.1 | 1.8 | Unknown (widest) |
| Grid water (L/kWh), Unknown | 0.2 | 5 | Unknown (widest) |
Preset ranges are illustrative modelling values chosen to be wide, not measurements of any provider.
